OICL AO Exam Pattern 2026

The Administrative Officer recruitment follows a rigorous three-stage evaluation process: Preliminary Examination, Mains Examination, and the Interview. Refer to the structure below to understand the marking scheme, total question count, and sectional time limits for both Prelims and Mains.

Stage 1: Prelims Exam

  • There are three sections in the Preliminary Examination: Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English.
  • Each section has its own sectional timing, which is 20 minutes.
  • Each correct answer gives 1 mark.
  • For each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be subtracted.

Stage 2: Mains Exam

Descriptive Test (English Language)

Candidates must secure the minimum qualifying marks in each section of the Objective Test to become eligible for evaluation in the Descriptive Test and subsequent interview rounds.

  • The Duration of the Descriptive test is 30 minutes
  • The total marks of the test are 30
  1. Letter Writing: 10 marks
  2. Essay Writing: 20 marks

Minimum qualifying marks requirements for the Descriptive Test:

  1. General: 15 out of 30
  2. SC/ST/PwBD: 13.5 out of 30

Scores obtained in the Descriptive Test are exclusively qualifying in nature and will not be factored into interview shortlisting or the final merit list.

Stage 3: Interview

Candidates who successfully qualify for the main examination will be shortlisted for the interview stage, typically at a ratio of approximately three times the number of vacancies per category/stream. The final selection is determined by a combined merit score, allocating an 80% weightage to the online examination and 20% to the personal interview.
